In November 2005, at the request of the YMCA ReConnect Outreach Program staff, St. George’s began to offer a meal for the community on the second Sunday of each month. The purpose of this dinner is to provide people with a meal on the weekend when the Karing Kitchen is closed.
Volunteers from St. George’s are often joined by Community groups and Churches (to whom we are most grateful) on Saturday mornings for the meal preparation, or on Sundays to serve the food, or to clean up. Over the years the menu has featured a variety of main courses, but our specialty continues to be roast beef with mashed potatoes, carrots, peas (or turnip), a hearty soup, and a slice of apple pie, with tea, coffee, or juice.
In God’s Providence, the request for this meal came at the same time that St. George’s was considering the renovation of its kitchen facility.
If you are interested in learning more about St. George’s Community Dinner, or if you would like to volunteer, please contact the Church Office at 855-5209.
On a final note, our meal begins with a prayer of thanksgiving; and, following the meal – at 5:00 p.m. – everyone is invited to come to the Chapel for Evening Prayer.
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
Community meals are continuing at their regular times for now as take-outs only.
